Victoria expands solar program for businesses

The Andrews Labor Government has expanded the eligibility criteria of its $47.5 million Solar for Business Program.

27 April 2022

The government has pledged to help even more Victorian businesses to cut their energy bills, with up to $8,500 off the upfront cost of a solar panel installation.

“More Victorian businesses will be able to take control of their energy bills with businesses with up to 50 employees able to access a rebate of up to $3,500 to install solar panels, an increase from the current 20 employee threshold,” the Andrews government announced this week.

For the first time, businesses will also be able to apply for zero interest loans of between $1,000 and $5,000 to reduce the initial outlay for solar panel installation.

Businesses will be able to access the expanded program from Friday, 29 April.

“Expanding the program will help even more Victorians to save money, while supporting clean energy jobs and helping meet our target of halving emissions by 2030,” Minister for Solar Homes Lily D’Ambrosio said.

“We’re putting power back into the hands of Victorian Homes and businesses – driving down energy costs and boosting supply, while creating 5,500 jobs.”

The solar program expansion comes as 85% of Australian business leaders surveyed believe sustainability and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) programs are critical to the success of their organisations.

The finding from a recent Oracle report also shows executives identified the top four benefits as strengthening the brand (36%), attracting new customers (35%), increasing productivity (31%), and improving supply chain management (31%).
